I agree on this so much. It hurts to see people turn away from me in favor of some chick that looks like a supermodel (*cough*fake*cough*). I'm around 200 pounds due to being drugged up on psycho meds as a teenager simply for having FEELINGS. Now men won't even look at me. And you wonder why I really only communicate through the internet. It's because there, they see your personality first. Not your looks. I am a very nice person if you get past my attitude. But noone will even consider my personality because I don't have the perfect hourglass figure.

Let's play Devil's Advocate!

Starting premise: Healthy people are more beautiful. This is because of the instinctive response of revulsion towards many of the outward signs of disease, which helps us survive by causing us to avoid contagious people and furthermore, search for healthy people in order to have healthy children. They also seem more beautiful due to societal pressures and teachings, being more symmetrical (which is very aesthetically pleasing to most), seeming younger (thus more likely to live longer and be happy together/raise children together for longer), and more.

Blemishes: Can be caused by bacteria or be a sign of inflammation due to disease. Also makes you not symmetrical.

Stretch marks: Usually come from gaining weight rapidly. This can indicate that the person gains and loses weight rapidly, making their current appearance not a good indicator of their future looks. This could also simply because they are overweight and obese, which many people do not find aesthetically pleasing (though some like the look), and is generally agreed to be less healthy.

Sagging breasts: Youth is also equated with beauty up to a point. Wrinkles are generally thought to be less aesthetically pleasing, and young people are usually healthier than older people (once they get past 50-60). I personally and physically repulsed by many examples of extremely sagging boobs, though extremely perky boobs look fake, which I dislike for other reasons which are neither here nor there.

Pimples: Caused by a mixture of oil and bacteria, but more importantly, they remind us of diseased pustules. Smallpox comes to mind.

Scars: This is the hardest one. Yes, they decrease symmetrical looks, and they can also indicate injuries, but many people like scars, especially "medium"-sized ones, i.e. not caused by 3rd degree burns, but not caused by a piece of paper. They can indicate experience.

tl;dr Being healthy and young is aesthetically pleasing because of Natural Selection.

I agree and disagree, with the way our society is still based though slowly moving away from, just a little and not, at the same time, beauty from within matters but beauty / aesthetically pleasing faces and bodies also matter. Obviously, however, beauty within counts for so much more. :D
